Prior to the unveiling of
Madden 22 coins the cover, The Undefeated's Aaron Dodson caught up with Jackson to talk about Jackson's Tecmo Bowl days, how Bo Knows came to life as well as his Madden return and more.
These conversations have been edited to improve clarity and clarity.
What does it mean to you when you finally get to be a player on the cover for the game, 35 years after the time your career started?
This has been in the making intermittently for several years. The timing had to be suitable for my business. It was working with the Madden people to get things sorted out, make sure to cross all the i's, connect all the dots -Once we had it done, everything else was just going to be a breeze. I decided that, somewhere in my history, I did something right so that I could continue to be looked at as one of the most famous sportsmen from more than thirty years ago. Madden is still thinking enough of me to make a decision like this.
The video game you played in your past dates back to 1989, when you were the mainstay of Tecmo Bowl. What was it like watching yourself on the screen back then?
I'm still thinking of
cheap mut coins myself still in Tecmo Bowl. I've got my video games. I've still got the machine for it to use. It's just in a box that's in storage. It's iconic. It really makes me happy to know knowing that I have grown-ups in their 40s telling me"Hey, my cousin and I had the biggest fight of our lives because we were both hoping to play in the Tecmo Bowl when we were young. Therefore, our parents seized the game and my dad locked it up in his tool cabinet. We were unable to play it for a whole month since the fight was so intense.' I hear that a lot. When I go to the sports memorabilia exhibitions, there are people who come up with that video game. They tell me, 'I've got the machine to play it on. My kids play it. My grandkids love it ... and everybody still debates about who's going to become Bo Jackson.' Tecmo Bowl ... that was an enormous amount of technology at the time. Now, you see it and think, "Wow this is a classic.'
