Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg has announced that his solarpowered drone aircrafts have begun test flights within the UK using the first flight already complete.
Facebook continues to be focusing on delivering internet towards the whole world as part of their Internet.org initiative. This involved flying drones which are solar powered and may stay up up for months at any given time. These are able to acting like satellites delivering internet connectivity for those below.
The goal of Internet.org was to provide access to the internet to regions of the planet that do not have it, beginning with less economically civilized world. Now it appears such as the rest of the planet is going to obtain Zuckerberg's make of internet too.
The drones are wider than the usual Boeing 737 in wingspan yet lighter than the usual car and able to flying at 60,000 feet. They were produced by Somersetbased company Ascenta which Facebook bought in 2014.
It seems like Zuckerberg is powering ahead together with his drones while little continues to be been told by Google that is also planning to offer drone based access to the internet. It bought drone manufacturer Titan Aerospace which produces planes that may stay up for 5 years at any given time.
Elon Musk's SpaceX can also be within the race and really wants to send up countless tiny satellites to provide a blanket of internet connectivity.
