Now what? You need to raise your magic to 9 levels. This can be done in RuneScape Gold the Dummies using lower-leveled strike magics. You could also complete Witch's Potion (or Imp Catcher) quests. Secondly, get a fire staff and Mind and Air runes. You'll require twice as many Air Runes as Mind Runes, so If you've got 5k minds, you'll need 10k airs.
Third, go to the training spot to take on the Mage Dummy. Each server can accommodate 3 people at a time. All you have to do is click the mouse and move the camera every 5 minutes. But it's against the rules. It is impossible for dummies to "die" however it's possible because they recover their full health after each attack. You don't even see it. Here is a brief video showing my character training.
Recent talks and arguments about CC's have been many. Most people like "slayer dart" for barrows. Even top players think that slayer dart is the most effective method of barrowing. This could be a better choice for you because it suits your style. High mage (85+), 90+ def, and 80+ pray might be also available. This means you could receive 342147219 chests for each journey. It's great, but melee is my most favorite. I am able to do more chests per journey and also save money by using 100+ Slayer Dart casts.
Most people who do barrows are lower lvl then those who do it, clearly with lower statistics and doing it to earn money. I have done barrows a lot in the last 9 months of playing. I have ok melee stats, and decent mage stats. I prefer melee. I have 3 ppots and one superset. Depending on the brothers' hits, I'm able to manage 3-5 chests. With slayer dart I can only do around 2 or 3 chests if I am lucky. This is the test I did with my character. It might not apply to you.
The other question is: Why is veracs considered the best melee method? I've tried barrows with no whip+defender but it was easier with BGS. They are much more effective than veracs versions. With the low hits and slow attack speed, I only managed to OSRS Buy Gold get through one trip.
