World of Warcraft Classic will be built on the 1.12 'Drums of War' patch from Mmoak2018's blog

It expanded upon that subject with a development update digging into the early phases of the procedure with which version of the game it needed to build on Gold in WoW Classic.

"As most of you have noted, the classic period was two decades long and full of changes. "After careful thought , we chose on Patch 1.12: Drums of War as our foundation, since it reflects the comprehensive version of the classic experience."

That makes a lot of sense, however, because 1.12 is vanilla World of Warcraft in its most refined and fleshed out.

The process of actually constructing the sport began, once that decision was made. A"rebuilt" version of 1.12 enabled the developers to make characters and take part in"basic questing and leveling," but of course there have been also crashes, hardware compatibility issues, and no assistance for up-to-date safety and anti-cheating measures.

For a second prototype, Blizzard came at the issue in the opposite direction by utilizing the 1.12 game information in today's code. And that is where it all started to come along:"After weeks of R&D, experimentation, and prototyping, we were confident we can deliver the classic WoW gameplay and content without forfeiting the literally millions of hours put in to backend development over the past 13 years," it explained.

"While our first effort helped us determine exactly the encounter we wanted to provide, this second prototype actually clarified how we would get there. Starting from a modern structure --with all its safety and stability changes--signifies the efforts of that the team can be concentrated on pursuing an authentic classic experience. Any differences in behavior between our growth builds along with the patch 1.12 reference can be cataloged and corrected, while still operating from a foundation that is stable and protected."

From there, the post dives into a more technical examination of the process, breaking down the different types of data used in the game and how the formats have evolved over the (several ) years which WoW has been around. Spell data, for instance, has been completely changed, and so while the current format is significantly more effective than the old system rather than hobbled by its own limitations, it also mandates that all the old information be completely reformatted--and that's not merely spells, but also items, animals, PCs, spawning, AI, and"virtually every game system" that WoW uses.

The effort will ultimately enabled"an authentic traditional encounter on a stage that is much more optimized and steady," and with advancements that only were accessible in the early days of WoW such as up-to-date anti-cheating systems, Battle.net integration,"and similar conveniences which don't affect the core gameplay experience."
