Darnold overcame a pick-6 on the first pass of his career and led the Jets (1-0) to a surprising 48-17 win over the Detroit Lions. Darnold didn’t get rattled, showing a calmness that led to him to complete 16-of-21 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns in the game. The Jets scored 31 points in the third quarter, the highest-scoring third quarter in team history.
Darnold got help from running backs Isaiah Crowell (102 yards) and Bilal Powell (60 yards) and a solid performance from wide receiver Quincy Enunwa, who caught six passes for 63 yards and a touchdown against the Lions.
